Rotary Peace Fellowships  http://www.rcthm.org/rotary-peace-fellowships/ Mon, 13 Feb 2023 19:20:53 +0000 https://www.rcthm.org/?p=2063 Each year, Rotary awards fully funded fellowships for peacebuilders from diverse backgrounds to study at one of our peace centers located at premier universities around the world. This year, we’ll select 50 peace fellows to study in our master’s degree programs and 40 fellows to earn a professional development certificate.

Our more than 1,600 program alumni work in over 140 countries and serve as leaders in governments and nongovernmental organizations, education and research, law enforcement and the military, as well as in international organizations dedicated to peace. Rotary Peace Fellows use their training to amplify their work at the local, regional, or global level. Clubs and districts can partner with them on peacebuilding initiatives before, during, and after their fellowships.

The fellowships pay for tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field study expenses for either a master’s degree or a professional development certificate. The centers provide customized studies and offer field-based learning opportunities.

Master’s degree programs

Accepted candidates study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body. The programs last 15 to 24 months and include a two- to three-month field study, which participants design themselves.

Professional development certificate program

During the one-year blended learning program, experienced peace and development professionals with diverse backgrounds gain practical skills to promote peace within their communities and across the globe. Fellows complete field studies and design and carry out a social change initiative. This program is intended for working professionals. Fellows earn a post-graduate diploma upon completion of the program.

Rotary members, Clubs and districts have the power to shape the next generation of peace leaders both by recruiting and nominating peace fellows, and by keeping them engaged after the fellowship ends.

Every Rotary year, district governors appoint a District Rotary Peace Fellowship Subcommittee Chair to oversee the Rotary Peace Fellowship application and endorsement process. The subcommittee chairs, along with additional trained Rotary endorsers, interview candidates and submit endorsement decisions. Rotary endorsement is required before The Rotary Foundation can consider a candidate. Clubs help by recommending and coaching qualified candidates.

International Project in Rwanda 2021 http://www.rcthm.org/international-project-in-rwanda-2021/ Thu, 25 Feb 2021 14:27:10 +0000 http://localhost/rcthm/?p=1692 In partnership with the Rotary Club of Kigali-Mont-Jali, the RCTHM will bring a number of sewing machines to the Rubavu Prison in Ginseyi, Rwanda.

The charity Just.Equipping is running a number of social projects for the inmates of Rubavu prison, but most of the time they do not have the resources. One of the problems is the lack of jail uniforms, which many inmates have to share. Without uniforms, inmates cannot participate in certain activities like exercise, training, or working. At the moment, the prison has one uniform for every 4 inmates.

A solution presented to our club is the acquisition of sewing machines for the prison, to allow prisoners to sew their own jail uniforms. The many benefits include the inhibition of the spread of Covid-19 and prepare them with a vocational skill to help them return to life outside of prison.

To meet our fundrasing goal, we are inviting individuals and other Rotary Clubs to sponsor sewing machines for 150.00 each. The RCTHM is also, holding a series of events as a fundraiser to help.

If your Club is interested in sponsoring a sewing machine, please reach out to treasurer@localhost.

The Power to Heal 2017, Official launch of the solar panel system http://www.rcthm.org/the-power-to-heal-2017-official-launch-of-the-solar-panel-system/ Thu, 18 Jan 2018 17:05:31 +0000 http://localhost/rcthm/?p=1169 Dear friends of The Power To Heal,

It is with great pleasure that we update you on our project The Power To Heal.

As you know, The Power To Heal is a joint effort by Rotary Club Mount Abu, India and our own club in The Hague, to install a solar power system at J Watumull Global Hospital & Research Centre in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India.

In support of the project we organized our 1st International Fellowship Weekend The Hague, on May 12-14, 2017. With 20 guests from 5 clubs in the UK, Bulgaria and Ethiopia we enjoyed fellowship and special events in and around the city. During the gala dinner on the 13th we welcomed 160 guests from over 20 countries, having a festive time and even a moment of meditation, all in the spirit of The Power To Heal.

Earlier this month (January 2018), the system was officially launched and it is currently fully operational. Not only the system provides clean electricity for the hospital but it also makes J Watumul Global Hospital and Research Center the first hospital in India powered by solar panels.

Here are some pictures from the day of the launch and also a video report from the local media.

The Power to Heal 2017, an update and note of gratitude http://www.rcthm.org/the-power-to-heal-2017-an-update-and-note-of-gratitude/ Tue, 19 Dec 2017 12:28:04 +0000 http://localhost/rcthm/?p=1136 Dear friends of The Power To Heal,

During the gala dinner on the 13th we welcomed 160 guests from over 20 countries, having a festive time and even a moment of meditation, all in the spirit of The Power To Heal.

We are very grateful to you, our guests, contributors, sponsors and donors to the raffle and auction. Besides bringing your good spirits you shared with us your generosity and helped raise €20,000 during the weekend and dinner. The Dutch foundation Wilde Ganzen added €10,000 for a total of €30,000. Further good news came from joining hands with Stichting Global Hospital (and again Wilde Ganzen), reaching a total amount of €82,500.

With this money, a total capacity of 82kWp (kilowattpeak), will be installed, making the hospital almost grid independent. Furthermore, the volunteer advisers have identified and advised several opportunities for energy savings, which the hospital will take up as well. Installation of the solar system is in full progress and we will report back to you of course upon completion.

Once again, on behalf of the organizing team and all of us at Rotary Club The Hague Metropolitan, thank you very much for your support and generosity, making The Power To Heal a reality and benefiting thousands of patients in and around Mount Abu.

We look forward to seeing you again in The Hague, at our 2nd Annual International Fellowship Weekend, on May 11-13, 2018 and our gala dinner on May 12, 2017. We will support a medical center in Belem, Pantanal, Brazil with a dental chair, various tools and a dental X-ray machine, to help the doctors improve the very important oral health and the life of many. More information will be soon published on our website.
